Competition Riding Lessons
Focused Training for Riders Preparing to Compete
At Four Willows Farm, we offer personalized competition riding lessons for students ready to take their skills into the show ring. Whether you’re entering your first local show or looking to refine performance for advanced events, our program provides the structure, coaching, and preparation needed to compete with confidence.
Located in Greenwood, Indiana, our quiet, private facility is the ideal setting to focus on your goals. With professional instruction, skilled horses, and a clear path for progression, we help riders prepare mentally and physically for the demands of equestrian competition.
Who Our Competition Program Is For
Our show prep lessons are open to youth and adult riders who:
- Are confident riding at walk, trot, and canter
- Have a strong foundation in flatwork and horsemanship
- Are currently in regular riding lessons
- Are interested in showing in hunter, jumper, or equitation classes
- Want to set performance goals and track measurable progress

We welcome both first-time competitors and riders with show experience who are looking to advance their technique and ring strategy.
What You'll Learn in Competition Lessons
Our competition training program combines advanced riding instruction with coaching focused on show-specific skills. Lessons are customized to the rider’s discipline and experience, and may include:
- Course memorization and pattern riding
- Extensive training experience in 5 gated saddleseat training and showing
- Equitation and position refinement
- Transitions, lead changes, and ring positioning
- Warm-up routines and pre-show readiness
- Show-day preparation, attire, and etiquette
- Mental focus and confidence building under pressure
We take the time to walk riders through the full competition experience, from schooling and warm-up to performance and feedback.
Support at Local and Regional Horse Shows
Four Willows Farm participates in schooling shows and recognized local events throughout the year. Riders enrolled in our competition program can receive:
- On-site coaching and support at events
- Help with show entry paperwork and logistics
- Guidance on grooming, tacking, and turnout
- Ringside instruction and post-ride feedback
- Confidence-building support before and after the ride

Our goal is to help riders feel prepared, composed, and proud of their performance — regardless of placing.
Goal-Oriented Training for Serious Riders
Each rider’s goals are different. Some want to step into the ring for the first time and gain experience. Others are working toward points, ribbons, or specific discipline benchmarks. We tailor our coaching to fit where you are and where you want to go.
We help riders develop:
- A consistent riding routine
- Technical and mental discipline
- Show readiness and personal accountability
- Clear performance goals and progress tracking

Lessons are scheduled individually, and programs can be adjusted as show seasons or rider objectives evolve.
Competition Riding With School Horses
Don’t own a horse? No problem.
We have a limited number of lesson horses available for show participation. These horses are seasoned, well-prepared for the ring, and matched carefully to each rider’s level and comfort.

For those with their own or leased horse, we offer coaching that integrates horse and rider into a unified competition team.
The Four Willows Farm Difference
What sets our competition training apart is our focus on long-term development. We care about winning — but more importantly, we care about helping riders grow as capable, ethical, and thoughtful equestrians. Our program is supportive, structured, and focused on consistent improvement over time.

We also maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere around showing. Riders are taught sportsmanship, preparation, and how to learn from each ride — win or lose.
